Care Assistant – Job Description

Your main purpose is to provide assistance and support to elderly residents within a Care / Nursing & Residential environment.

Your duties will include:

To carry out individual care as per resident’s care plan, administering medication (depending on level of qualifications, ensuring the unit is operating efficiently, creating a warm and friendly atmosphere and maintaining good relationships between residents, relatives and staff.

Description:

Personal care workers assist in caring for patients in hospitals, Care / Residential & Nursing homes, clinics and institutions for the aged or disabled.
Personal care workers may perform the following tasks:

  • assist nursing staff to lift and turn bedridden patients
  • help to shower, bathe
  • assist clients with dressing and eating
  • help clients to move around and communicate
  • apply practical intervention procedures for dementia or behavioural problems
  • make sure that an adequate supply of clean clothing and linen is available for the client and that soiled items are removed and cleaned
  • observe and report any changes in the condition or any complaints about care to a supervisor
  • assist with rehabilitation exercises and basic treatment and medications (Senior Care Assistant)
  • accompany patients who are ready for discharge to the Hospital / Doctors Surgery

Personal care workers are usually required to carry out rostered shift work which includes night and weekend work. Some positions may be casual. With experience and further training, personal care workers can become enrolled nurses or registered nurses.

Personal Skill Requirements:

Domestic Staff – Job Description

Your main purpose is to provide assistance and cleaning support within a Care / Nursing & Residential environment.

Your duties will include:

To carry out all cleaning duties as directed by the Home Manager; ensure that cleaning schedules are adhered to and that all cleaning equipment is correctly and safely used.

Description:

The successful candidate will maintain a high standard of personal presentation and hygiene and will be sensitive to the privacy and individual needs of the residents. Duties include cleaning bedrooms, bathrooms, all living areas and carrying out all duties required by the individual care Homes.

Personal Skill Requirements:

No formal qualifications are needed, and no previous experience is usually required, although some care homes may prefer persons experienced in this type of work.


Maintenance & Handy Person – Job Description

Your main purpose is to provide maintenance within and around a Care / Nursing & Residential or industrial environment.

Your duties will include:

To carry out duties as directed by the home manager; ensure that all assignments are adhered to and that all equipment is correctly and safely used.

Description:

Your job in the atmosphere of a busy care home as a maintenance / handy person would be to make sure the jobs are done efficiently and well.

The maintenance person / handy person must ensure that Health & Safety regulations are adhered to;

That means you could be asked to do a range of tasks including keeping everything clean, making sure the equipment and tools are where they should be. Your tasks might include changing door locks, light bulbs / switches, painting, gardening etc.

  • Be physically fit

  • The ability to work as part of a team.
  • Be prompt.
  • Must be willing to work irregular hours.

Personal Skill Requirements:

A maintenance person / handy person does not need to be trained but on the job experience in this area will be an advantage.

To do this work you need to be full of stamina and enthusiasm, happy to turn your hand to whatever is asked of you, able to work quickly, willingly and efficiently.
